Here you’ll find an overview of my findings about using blogs as the basis for the web presence (traditionally web sites) of your small business or non-profit organization.
The benefits are simple and compelling:
Cheap
1. Amazingly cost effective
Easy
2. Easy to use and control, even for non-technical folks
3. Professional and easy to use for your clients
Connecting
4. Great for visibility as they are prioritized by search engine over traditional sites
5. Reality-based, not just your slick marketing face. Today’s sophisticated buyers demand authenticity and are turned off by lopsided hype and flashiness
6. Build community by acting as a hosted conversation between your organization and it’s community of users, stakeholders, and clients
7. The blog structure, as a Web 2.0 user-generated content tool, allows everyone (you allow) in your community to share in the creation of content. What if your blog was built by the most creative, energetic folks in your organization rather than by an outside designer or your IT staff?
Fun
8. You know a lot about your work… and yet most of what you know that’s really interesting, useful, and fresh stays locked up inside because you don’t have a handy way to communicate with your customers and community. The culture of blogs allows you to quickly and informally publish your thoughts and inspirations. It’s fun, it lets your community connect more deeply with you, and it’s energizing. In my experience, for every thought that published, room is made for a few more to enter your mind.
