Keys to blogging success

May 12th, 2008

Like any project, a blog requires work to be successful.

Here are the keys to moving successfully from a static web site to a living blog.

1. Leadership - someone will evangelize and drive the process. Of course, ANY change, even improvement will come up against inertia. Someone must keep looking over their shoulder and call to the others, “Come on in, the water’s fine!”

2. Standards - blogs can easily become messes, unless standards for content, style, and frequency are set and routinely inspected. See my thoughts on how an editorial board could help with this.

3. Pace - blogs don’t have to be updated every day, but they’ll begin to wilt if they go much more than a week without some fresh water. Even a drop will help.
