Virtual home of the Bárczay (Bárczai) de Bárcza family
Any interest in an extended family reunion in Hungary in the summer of 2009?

Please contribute any material you have, we’d love to have you share in the creation of this resource to keep the family a family, despite the distances between us.How to contribute Bárczay family information you have
Thank you,
Stephen Bárczay Sloan

Questions I have about Bárczay family history:
1. What was going through Bárczay Zoltan’s mind that fateful October morning in 1944 as he loaded the wagon and began heading West?
2. Why did King Sigismund give the family noble title and its coat of arms in 1421?
3. What does being from a noble family mean for those of us living now?
4. What if anything was lost along the road to the democracy and meritocracy we enjoy today?
5. How do we rebuild the benefits of extended family that the Bárczay’s enjoyed before the forces of Fascism and Communism scattered us across the globe?
6. What is the use of learning history when our lives are lived in the present and created in the future?
7. How do we look forward and try to anticipate, and therefore avoid, being caught in the meat grinder of history, those large, often destructive, events that periodically reshape our lives.

I just got this question from a client:
So I’m posting things to the blog by cutting and pasting, but when I do my formatting goes out the window, spacing gets weird, tabs go haywire making my entry look goofy and juvenile. I don’t see any controls in the posting area that let me control any of these aspects. Any tips?
Joy
Most word processing programs (Word, etc.) add formatting codes that you don’t see. So, when you copy and paste into WordPress, those formatting codes override your theme’s formatting (the css file) and your blog gets messy (or juvenile to use Joy’s word.)* You could try to cut all the formatting code out by hand in the HTML view, but it’s a lot easier to simply follow one of these two paths to clean text.
The secret to not confusing your blog’s formatting code is to either:
1. Compose in a text editor.
2. Compose in your word processing program of choice, then copy the text and paste it into a text editor (Notepad, WordPad, or whatever), which will strip out all the formatting code for you, then copy it from that text editor and paste it into WordPress.
Once you have raw text in WordPress, use the WordPress formatting tools - bold, bullets, etc. - to make it pretty. This will keep the html formatting, and therefore the look of your blog site, consistent.
*If you want to see all that confusing code, just click the little HTML tab in the post editing tool bar, just next to the Add media and Visual buttons. Look for <span … or <font ….

Simple viewer, from AirTight Interactive, is another great, free content publishing tool.
To get the images you see in the flash slideshow, follow these steps.
- Navigate to the slide show.
- Note the image number you want, usually down below the thumbnails.
- At the end of the url/web address of the slide show you are in, just type the word “images”, all lower case, at the end of the address and press enter/return. See example below.
- This will take you to a list of the images.
- Click on the image you want
- You can right or control click on the image and copy it, save it, etc.
- Remember to be careful of copyright issues.

I’m excited to be teaching World History to 10th graders at West Sound Academy this year.
•
Yes, that’s me!
My new form of bungee jumping… learning to teach World History (India, China, Middle East, and Africa) to 14-16 year olds at West Sound Academy.
I started last week and I love it! The thing I love best is sharing my love of history with the students who have much more important things on their minds. I remember that time of life with some fondness. Feeling fully capable, but carefree.
I’ve been impressed with some of the deep thinkers I’ve got in class and by the fantastic group of teachers I get to call collegues.
Of course, I am still offering consulting work and tutoring. See more on those subjects at right.
